SKSSC2  Produce and apply complex stencil designs for a screen  production

Overview

This standard is about producing specialist designs for stencils and applying them to surfaces.. You are required to produce specialist designs for stencils as well as positioning and applying them to surfaces. You will need to set out and form single and multi-late stencils. You may be required to use water borne or solvent borne paints for both linear runs and full wall applications.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. interpret instructions and specifications for the work to be undertaken
  2. select the tools and resources to produce and apply complex stencil designs
  3. select and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  4. clean surfaces for stencil application
  5. set out and form single and multi-plate stencils
  6. produce stencil designs using water borne and solvent borne paints for linear runs and full wall applications
  7. produce graduated effects by brush, sponge and spray
  8. protect the work area from damage at all times
  9. use tools and equipment safely and leave them in a safe and serviceable condition
  10. dispose of waste in line with organizational procedures
  11. leave the work area in a clean and tidy condition
  12. comply with legal, statutory and organisational requirements to maintain safe work practices
  13. complete your work to maintain the production schedules and meet the design brief

 

Knowledge Criteria

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to obtain and interpret the instructions and specifications required to produce and apply complex stencil designs
  2. the tools, equipment and materials required to produce and apply complex stencil designs
  3. the personal protective equipment that you need to use
  4. how to check previously prepared surfaces to confirm their suitability and bring to the required condition
  5. the different type of paints you may use and the different surfaces to which they may need to be applied
  6. how to maintain tools, equipment and materials
  7. how to set out and form single and multi-plate stencils
  8. how to produce graduated effects
  9. how to protect work against damage from general workplace activities, other occupations and adverse weather conditions.
  10. the production schedule
  11. who to report problems or difficulties to in completing the work
  12. how to identify and remove hazards in the working environment
  13. the health and safety legislation, statutory and organisational requirements
