SKSSC5  Erect and dismantle access and working platforms for a screen  production

Overview 

This standard is about erecting and dismantling access and working platforms. You will be required to erect, move, position, secure, dismantle and remove the equipment which includes ladders, stepladders, platforms and towers as well as staging and podiums.

On occasions you will be erecting and dismantling equipment for your own use whilst on other occasions they are for others to use.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. interpret instructions and specifications for the work to be undertaken
  2. identify the equipment required to erect and dismantle access and working platforms
  3. confirm the location where equipment is to be placed
  4. select and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  5. obtain assistance to erect equipment safely
  6. erect or position equipment to enable them to be used
  7. safely move equipment as required
  8. safely dismantle equipment and store as required
  9. pack equipment confirming that all items are present and in a correct and serviceable condition
  10. load transportation for the removal of equipment
  11. protect the work area from damage at all times
  12. use tools and equipment safely and leave them in a serviceable condition
  13. dispose of waste in line with organisational procedures
  14. leave the work area in a clean and tidy condition
  15. comply with legal, statutory and organisational requirements
  16. complete your work within the production schedule

 

Knowledge Criteria

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to obtain and interpret the information required to undertake the work
  2. the tools, equipment and materials required to erect, move or dismantle equipment
  3. how to identify and source the equipment required to erect, move or dismantle access and working platforms
  4. how to erect move or dismantle a variety of different types of equipment
  5. how to monitor the condition of equipment to maintain its serviceability and safety
  6. how to pack and transport equipment
  7. the personal protective equipment that you need to use
  8. the production schedule
  9. how to protect work against damage from general workplace activities, other occupation and adverse weather conditions.
  10. who to report problems or difficulties to in completing the work
  11. how to identify and remove hazards in the working environment
  12. the health and safety legislation, statutory and organisational requirements
