SKSSC4 Repair complex fibrous plaster components for a screen production 

Overview

This standard is about repairing complex fibrous plaster components for use on a screen production. This will include a wide range of plasterwork, including dados, cornices skirtings, panels and arches.

This standard is for set craft and ornamental plasterers.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. interpret the design brief and instructions relating to the work to be undertaken and specific requirements for the set or location
  2. communicate the details of the design brief and agreed schedule with team members
  3. select tools, materials and equipment to undertake your work
  4. obtain the materials in the quantities required for repairing plasterwork components
  5. use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
  6. remove unwanted components without causing damage to existing plasterwork
  7. replicate mouldings
  8. form and reinforce joints
  9. form internal and external returns and stop ends
  10. fit additional components in a secure and safe manner
  11. use tools and equipment safely and leave them in a safe and serviceable condition
  12. protect the work and its surrounding area from possible damage
  13. communicate with team members to ensure work produced meets the design brief
  14. dispose of waste in line with organisational procedures
  15. leave the work area in a clean and tidy condition
  16. comply with legal, statutory and organisational requirements to maintain safe work practices
  17. complete your work to maintain production schedules and meet the design brief

 

Knowledge Criteria

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to obtain and interpret the design brief, instructions and the production schedule to undertake plasterwork repair activities
  2. the tools, equipment and materials required to undertake plasterwork repairs
  3. how to estimate the quantities of materials required to carry out the  work
  4. the personal protective equipment that you need to use
  5. how to maintain tools, equipment and materials
  6. the methods used to repair plasterwork components to the standard required
  7. how to determine the best working methods and agree this with the appropriate team members
  8. who to communicate information regarding timescales, deadlines and productions schedule considerations to
  9. how to measure, calculate and mark out the plasterwork area accurately
  10. how to record measurements and store this information
  11. how to replicate mouldings in accordance with the design brief
  12. how to form and reinforce joints as required
  13. how to form internal and external returns and stop ends
  14. how to fit and secure components in a safe manner
  15. the working regulations and requirement for the specific environment, studio or location
  16. how to record and store information for the repair of plasterwork
  17. how to protect work against damage form general workplace activities, other occupations and adverse weather conditions
  18. the production schedule
  19. the organisational policies for waste disposal and environmental impact
  20. how to identify and remove hazards in the working environment
  21. the health and safety legislation, statutory and organisational requirements
