SKSSC3 Produce and install glass reinforced plastic components for a screen production
Overview
This standard is about producing and installing glass reinforced plastic components (GRP) for a production. This will include applying components to horizontal, vertical, inclined and circular surfaces.
You will need to employ a wide range of working practices to carry out this work. This includes cutting, fitting, drilling, brushing, sawing, grinding, fixing, rolling and laminating.
You will also need to be familiar with a wide range of materials. These will include release agents, gel coats, resin coats, accelerators and catalysts.
This standard is for those working in set crafts and special physical effects prop creation.
Performance Criteria
You must be able to:
interpret the design brief and instructions for the work to be undertaken
communicate the details of the design brief and agreed schedule with team members
select and prepare tools, materials and equipment to undertake the work
obtain the specified materials required for producing and installing plastic components
prepare the backgrounds, substrates and fabricating moulds
select materials, components and equipment as specified
measure and mark out the required work area
prepare the models for moulds and components
mix and apply materials and components for moulds and background surfaces
identify the factors which have caused faults and necessary steps to remedy them
align sections correctly for installations
verify that all required joints are in place
finish all components correctly for production
use tools and equipment safely and leave them and serviceable condition
protect the work and its surrounding area from possible damage
communicate with team members to ensure work produced meets the design brief
leave the work area in a clean and tidy condition
dispose of waste materials in line with organisational requirements
comply with legal, statutory and organisational requirements
complete the work to maintain the production schedules and meet the design brief
Knowledge Criteria
