SKSSC1 Hang wide-width vinyls for use on film for a screen production

Overview

This standard is about hanging wide-width vinyls. This is undertaken on set and you are expected to hang both fabric backed and paper backed vinyls.

This standard is for set decorators.

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. interpret instructions and specifications for to the work to be undertaken
  2. select the tools, equipment and materials to hang wide-width vinyls
  3. report when tools, equipment and materials are not immediately available or are not in the correct condition
  4. prepare materials required for the work
  5. confirm that surfaces have been prepared correctly before you hang wide-width vinyls
  6. apply the specified amount of adhesive to enable the vinyls to be hung effectively
  7. measure and cut vinyls prior to hanging and applying adhesive
  8. hang vinyls ensuring patterns match correctly where necessary
  9. trim and cut vinyls to create an accurate finish that meets the specified standard using the appropriate tools
  10. protect the work area from damage at all times
  11. use tools and equipment safely and leave them in serviceable condition
  12. dispose of waste in line with organisational procedures
  13. leave the work area in a clean and tidy condition
  14. comply with legal, statutory and organisational requirements to maintain safe work practices
  15. complete the work to maintain production schedules

 

Knowledge Criteria

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to obtain and interpret the information required to hang wide-width vinyls
  2. the tools, equipment and materials required to hang wide-width vinyls
  3. the personal protective equipment that you need to use
  4. how to estimate the quantities of materials required for the work
  5. the different type of vinyls you may use and the different surfaces to which they may need to be applied
  6. how to maintain tools, equipment and materials
  7. the methods used hang vinyls to the standard required
  8. the finish required once wallcoverings have been hung
  9. how to protect work against damage from general workplace activities, other occupations and adverse weather conditions.
  10. the production schedule
  11. who to report problems or difficulties to in completing the work
  12. how to identify and remove hazards in the working environment
  13. the health and safety legislation, statutory and organisational requirements
