Overview

This standard is about determining the production requirements for designs to meet the brief.

This standard is also about determining what factors can impact on scheduling and budgeting designs and agreeing priorities and resources relating to scenes, locations and shooting schedules.

 

Performance criteria 

You must be able to: 

  1. review and record key information and features from production brief which will impact on scheduling, budgeting, and design
  2. identify and agree priorities and resource implications with members of the production team
  3. evaluate key information relating to scenes, locations and shooting schedules
  4. identify the significance of each scene for inclusion in the schedules of requirements
  5. check with the production team when information about the production is incomplete and unclear
  6. confirm with decision makers which visual elements and resources are required and when, and inform those responsible for their acquisition
  7. identify functional elements such as properties, scenic design and specialist equipment
  8. establish and determine production resourcing
  9. plan how materials, personnel and other resources could be obtained and deployed in line with production requirements
  10. justify estimates of costs in terms of the  design brief
  11. discuss viable alternatives with the production team when design priorities change,

 

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to identify design factors including: visual composition; concepts for key shots; mood and atmosphere of settings; lighting, colour; effects and technical implications for colleagues in the creative team
  2. how to identify, estimate and schedul production requirements and resources
  3. methods of obtaining and deploying material, personnel and monetary resources using the script/format and scene breakdown
  4. the importance of considering the cost of studios and locations in relation to design requirements
  5. the importance of agreeing the material, personnel and monetary resources required with the relevant people within the timescales to allow your plans to take place
  6. script/format and scene breakdown and how these can help to identify and plan the work required and its costs
  7. the relationship between, and significance of, scenes and schedule shooting order
  8. the requirements of different types of functional elements such as props, scenic design or specialist equipment
  9. how to identify, rank, justify and agree design priorities K10 production resourcing requirements
  10. the importance of working within and acknowledging copyright when the material, images, or artwork of others is used
