Overview

This standard is about obtaining specified props to meet production needs.

You will be responsible for identifying production requirements for props and agree them with other decision makers.

You will be also required to source suppliers and arrange safe handling and storage of props.

This standard may be suitable for the role of props master. *

Performance criteria 

You must be able to:

  1. identify requirements for props and production schedules
  2. liaise with other departments and personnel about props requirements and agree them with other decisions makers
  3. identify likely sources of hire/supply of props
  4. select items from hire and supply companies who can best meet the production requirements
  5. check and confirm delivery schedules, deadlines and locations are consistent with production requirements and are agreed with hirers/suppliers
  6. arrange transport facilities if required
  7. when the cost of an item is beyond budget limits, obtain purchasing authority from the appropriate decision maker 
  8. record requirements and agreements for props hire or purchase
  9. when licence or special permissions are required for the use of props, check and confirm that approvals have been acquired
  10. agree arrangements with the hirer/supplier for the safe handling and storage of props and communicate these to all personnel
  11. identify and record special requirements for the safe handling and storage of props
  12. oversee the safe return of props after use to the supplier/hire company
  13. comply with health and safety legislation, regulations and protocols

 

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. the different types of props and their uses
  2. the importance of acquiring props which suit the style of the production
  3. the props that need replacing for re-takes, e.g. consumables, drinks,cigarettes, candles etc.
  4. information about supply and hire companies
  5. the criteria for evaluating suppliers and hirers
  6. how to identify and clear requirements for product placements, logos and copyrighted items
  7. how to check that any required clearances have been obtained
  8. how to confirm logistics for props
  9. negotiation techniques
  10. the health and safety legislation, regulations and protocols
  11. record keeping and who to communicate this information to
