Overview 

This standard is about making arrangements and undertaking the planning for those who will be lifting and transferring set pieces using transport.

It requires that you know how to calculate the payload for the loading of vehicles, the dangers of overloading and other hazards to consider and plan for.

This standard also covers the completion of the appropriate paperwork for the movement of items overseas.

This standard is for those who supervise stagehands.

 

Performance criteria 

You must be able to: 

  1. allocate the plant/ required for the work activity
  2. ensure that the correct transport is available for the transferring of set pieces
  3. provide instructions for the use of plant/equipment and for carrying out the work activity
  4. identify and assess risks and implement work practices and other safeguards that will avoid or minimise risk
  5. calculate payload of vehicles to prevent overloading, or damage to the vehicle or items being moved
  6. monitor the movement of set pieces around the set or location to meet production requirements
  7. ensure items are securely packed fortransportation
  8. complete and maintain records and documentation according to production requirements
  9. when required, complete customs declarations for international shipping purposes correctly and timely

 

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. the hazards of transporting items in the workplace and ways of reducing the risks involved
  2. your responsibilities under the Health and Safety statutory requirements
  3. how to implement safeguards and working practices to minimise risk
  4. how to provide accurate instructions for the completion of the work activity and the use of plant and equipment
  5. how to calculate the payload of vehicles and lifting equipment, to avoid overloading
  6. the weight limits of vehicles and equipment
  7. how to recognise when vehicles and equipment are unsuitable for the work activity, and who to inform of this
  8. what paperwork to complete for customs purposes
  9. how to undertake and document risk assessments
  10. the importance of record keeping
