Overview 

This standard is about creating specialised finishes on set pieces that are required including wood, stones, brick effects, vac forming and brushing,  and burning timber to create special age finishes.

The standard requires you to know what is needed, by when and therefore what materials and equipment are required to produce the desired finish.

You need to be able to produce the items with the correct specification and with the desired finish.

 

Performance criteria 

You must be able to: 

  1. operate tools and equipment complying with legislation and protocols v
  2. select materials for the work required as instructed
  3. choose materials and lay these to create the desired coverings
  4. create wood effects and finishes as directed using brushing and burning to the required depth and patina
  5. cover windbags to specifications and complete the overall effect with the best use of materials

 

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. tools and equipment required for the job
  2. plans and specifications to follow
  3. the techniques used to to create required finishes
  4. how to safely operate tools and machinery
  5. health and safety requirements for working with powered equipment and hand tools
  6. risks associated with the use of powered equipment and tools
  7. how to construct timber frames to specification, for use as windbags
  8. the appropriate covering for windbags such as cotton duck or Hessian
  9. how to securely fix coverings to timber frames, and appropriate materials for the job
