Overview 

This standard is about your ability to transport weapons, ammunition and propellants for use on productiosn complying with legislation and protocols.

It will involve planning a route, liaising with the appropriate authorities, loading and unloading following legislation and protocols and ensuring safe and appropriate storage on site.

Performance criteria 

You must be able to: 

  1. check that all documentation is complete and accurate
  2. liaise with the appropriate authorities and organisations concerned with the movement of weapons, ammunition and propellants
  3. plan a transport route that ensures the items to arrive safely and on time complying with agreed protocols
  4. check that the weapons, ammunition and propellants are loaded, stored and unloaded complying with legislation and protocols
  5. maintain the safety of cast and crew at all times when transporting weapons, ammunition and propellants
  6. check that drivers and individuals transporting weapons, ammunition and propellants are carrying the appropriate documents and certificates to prove competence
  7. check that the appropriate levels of insurance are in place and documentation to that effect can be provided upon request
  8. take all aspects of risk assessment and management into account and provide documentation to this effect

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. the legislation and protocols for transporting weapons, ammunition and propellants
  2. how to plan an appropriate route, being aware of the necessary transportation methods for different weapons, ammunition and propellants
  3. the appropriate authorities and to liaise with
  4. how to prepare documentation for this transportation of weapons, ammunition and propellants
  5. how to pack and load transportation vehicles safely
  6. the protocols for ensuring that weapons, ammunition and propellants are transported complying with legislation and protocols
  7. how to research any national or international requirements which may impact upon the safe transportation of weapons, ammunition and propellants
  8. how to identify the competent people able to carry out this task and be able to provide documentation to that effect
  9. the necessary insurances and licences which must be in place to transport weapons, ammunition and propellants
