Performance criteria
You must be able to:
interpret and breakdown a script to ascertain what armoury and weapons are required
confirm that the armoury and weapons can be used safely, in compliance with legislation and adhering to the terms of any insurance and licensing at all times
provide a documented brief including storyboards and visualisation
provide alternative armoury and weapons ideas when required
consult with clients and other departments about the requirements of the documented brief
create a budget for the suggested armoury and weapons requirements, complying legislation and protocols
identify which armoury and weaponss and materials are the most appropriate for each scene
assess the location to ascertain how appropriate it is to use identified armoury and weapons and materials
consider the impact of the location assessment upon the production budget and schedule
provide production with confirmation that all identified armoury and weapons have been sourced and tested
confirm that the correct insurance is in place to provide and use the armoury and weapons and that all certificates and licenses are valid and current
take all aspects of risk assessment and management into account and provide documentation to this effect when required

how to interpret and breakdown a script, taking into account safety, the period of the script, location and authenticity of the articles and materials required
how the production process works and how elements within this are achieved
production requirements and be able to suggest ideas for armoury and weapons, within the available budget and time resources
of the role of other departments, in particular Camera, Stunts, Physical and Visual Special Effects and how to work in collaboration with these to achieve any given effect
how to provide storyboards, visualisations and drawing aids to advise on the most suitable armoury and weapons to be used
how to budget all elements of the design, including labour, resources and manufacture, ensuring that appropriate insurance is included
how to liaise with the relevant production personnel to ensure the armoury and weapons requirements are achievable
different types of armoury and weapons and the legislation and insurance requirements that apply to these
the importance of undertaking and documenting risk assessments
