Performance criteria
You must be able to:
Obtain information about requirements and parameters of inspections and reports for restoration or renovation projects from appropriate people
Recommend how information about past or future restoration or renovation projects can be acquired to the level of detail required
Use appropriate methods to assess heritage sites, settings or structures in line with project requirements
Research relevant information about the history of heritage sites, settings or structures
Research materials or finishes used on heritage sites, settings or structures during the desired time period for the renovation or restoration
Assess materials used and quality of workmanship against accepted standards
Make recommendations which preserve and incorporate heritage features
Make recommendations which comply with legal requirements for the protection of heritage, relevant good practice standards and any local planning requirements
Produce reports and photographs that accurately portray the condition of restorations or renovations
Provide reports and photographs to clients and senior managers in line with agreed timescales
Provide technical advice within your area of expertise to support reports
Knowledge and understanding

Architectural history and the principles of architectural design and heritage features in relation to heritage structures
How to obtain and interpret building plans and historic documents
