IMPQI311 – Communicate a vision and policy for improvement in food operations

Overview 

This standard is about the skills and knowledge needed for you to communicate the vision and policy which underpins change and improvement, to support your organisation's drive to improve food operations. This is important in increasing productivity and success of manufacture, processing and supply within the food supply chain. Effective communication is vital in ensuring that an improvement strategy can be successfully delivered and sustained.

You will need to show and understand how you prepare adequately for communicating your organisation's improvement vision and policy. You will need to comply with your company policies for communicating change and improvement and take responsibility for your actions. It involves implementing communication plans to drive the change and improvement that is needed. It is about ensuring that the tough decisions required during the management of change and improvement, are communicated effectively to achieve the objectives required.

This standard applies to you if you are a director or manager who has responsibility for communicating an organisation's improvement vision and policy, to sustain improvement in food or drink operations including manufacturing, processing, packing or supply chain activities.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

Produce a communication plan for the vision and policy

  1. identify and review the briefing for the use of the vision in line with your organisation's overall branding guidance and related communications guidance
  2. draft and agree the plans for communication of the vision and policy
  3. discuss and confirm the key objectives, scope of the plans and the available resources with relevant personnel and any key stakeholders
  4. make any final changes to plans where necessary and confirm the final plans with the relevant personnel

Communicate the vision and policy for improvement

  1. brief personnel and management on your plans, their roles and responsibilities and provide ongoing support, encouragement and information
  2. put processes and resources in place to control potential risks arising from your plans and deal with contingencies
  3. implement your communication plan, selecting and applying a range of directive or management tools and techniques appropriate to needs
  4. communicate progress to management, key stakeholders and any others on a regular basis
  5. identify in the light of progress, any required changes to your communication plan, obtaining agreement from the relevant people where necessary
  6. achieve your planned communication objectives using the agreed level of resources
  7. confirm satisfactory completion of your objectives with the relevant people and any key stakeholders

Obtain and provide feedback about communication of vision and policy

  1. evaluate the impact of your communication activities, identifying what lessons can be learned and recognising the contributions of any managers and other personnel
  2. seek feedback on the value of your contribution to communicating vision and policy as required by the improvement strategy
  3. provide feedback about your communication of vision and policy for improvement to the relevant personnel
