IMPHS201– Contribute to environmental safety in food and drink operations

Overview 

This standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to work in an environmentally safe way. You will need to follow safe working practices; identify, minimise and report environmental damage and incidents; and dispose of waste in an environmentally safe way.

This standard is for you, if you work in food and drink operations.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. follow environmentally safe working practices and take precautions to minimise environmental damage
  2. identify incidental damage following standard operating procedures
  3. minimise any incidental damage
  4. report environmental incidents and actions taken following standard operating procedures
  5. dispose of waste materials safely

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand

  1. different methods used to minimise environmental damage
  2. how to choose suitable materials and equipment, given the nature of the work activity, and its potential impact on the environment
  3. different types of environmental damage
  4. organisational and legislative requirements relating to environmental damage
  5. types of damage that may occur, the impact these can have on the environment, and what corrective actions can be taken
  6. how to dispose of waste in ways that minimise the risk to the environment
  7. reporting procedures for environmental incidents
