SKSL1 Conduct a recce from an electrical viewpoint

Overview

This standard is about conducting a recce from an electrical viewpoint.

This means considering aspects of the location that will impact on the electrical work, by looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the site, and what to do once a studio or location has been selected. This standard covers conducting a risk assessment and estimating and evaluating the production lighting schedule.

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. prepare for the visit to the proposed locations with the members of the production team
  2. assess and record the suitability of the proposed locations in meeting the technical requirements for discussion with the technical team
  3. assess the cost implications of using the proposed locations
  4. ensure site notes and records are of sufficient detail to allow accurate interpretation into technical requirements
  5. assess and record the characteristics, position and proposed sequence of the locations in terms of transporting electrical plant and equipment within the production schedule
  6. complete a risk assessment to identify hazards associated with the proposed locations and the possible risks within the context of handling electrical plant, equipment and staff
  7. ensure the risk assessment complies with all current health and safety regulations
  8. liaise with all contractors and / or specialist services involved with the electrical requirements

 

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. the production schedule, technical and budget requirements and their impact on the recce
  2. how to assess the advantages and disadvantages of locations from an electrical viewpoint
  3. the importance of obtaining specialist advice
  4. when and how to obtain specialist advice
  5. the key factors in building up an assessment of the electrical implications and cost effectiveness of using particular locations
  6. what to look for at studios or locations to decide upon the necessary equipment and resources
  7. how to account for the possibility of adverse physical and environmental conditions
  8. the procedures to follow once a selection is made to use a location
  9. how to conduct a risk assessment
  10. the importance of ensuring the safety of all staff and equipment / resources
  11. the current health and safety regulations affecting the production
