SKSCTV9 Assist camera operators to review and record images

 

Overview


This Standard is about assisting camera operators with recording and reviewing images.  This could apply to any type of production including feature films, TV dramas, commercials, documentaries, sports coverage, outside broadcast and live or stage events.  This could apply in a multi or single camera environment.

This includes maintaining supplies of recording media, dealing with all aspects of time code, setting white and black balance, recording information about colour bars and calibrated tone, checking recordings, reporting problems, labelling and transporting recorded media.

 

This standard is for any member of the camera crew who assists camera operators to record and review images.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. make sure there are sufficient supplies of suitable recording media to meet shooting needs
  2. report any possible recording media shortage to relevant people without delay
  3. handle and store recording media in line with procedures
  4. produce records and labels which are legible and accurate, and which provide all required production details and technical information
  5. decide on appropriate time code type in consultation with production colleagues
  6. check recording media for visual signs of damage before loading
  7. load recording media in line with manufacturers’ instructions and prepare equipment for recording
  8. insert time code and any required user bits to meet post production requirements
  9. synchronise time code with other sources, or provide a master reference   monitor power throughout recording
  10. set white balance and black balance to meet requirements
  11. record type of colour bars and calibrated tone to meet requirements
  12. use record inhibits to prevent over recording on recording media
  13. check recordings and re-positioning tape for subsequent shots when requested by camera operators
  14. report any problems to appropriate people without delay
  15. transfer media assets to the next stage in the production process in line with security and production requirements
  16. pass on recording media and supporting information to relevant people without delay

  8. safe handling and storage requirements for recording media
  9. what items of equipment have magnetic fields which could affect recording media
  10. what environmental factors could affect recording media
  11. where recording media is being obtained from, and return procedures
  12. how to check recordings
  13. who to report problems with recorded media to
  14. how to handle and label recording media to avoid damage
  15. suitable packaging in order to avoid damage from climatic conditions or during transit
  16. local dispatch arrangements, including deadlines 
  17. the format of time codes in current use
  18. labelling and identification marks for recording media
