SKSDT2 Review and store recorded media for productions
Overview
This Standard involves reviewing and storing recorded media for productions. This could apply to any type of production including feature films, TV dramas, commercials, documentaries, sports coverage, outside broadcast and live or stage events.
This includes verifying the condition of recorded media, giving feedback on quality of media, processing data, pre-empting technical problems, backing up and archiving recorded media and packing up and storing kit and equipment.
This standard is for digital imaging technicians (DITs) working on productions.
Performance Criteia
You must be able to:
use appropriate software to verify there is no damage or corruption to recorded media
back up recorded media to required destinations
protect media from environmental factors which may have a negative impact on data recording or storage
offer feedback on quality of data to appropriate people in camera and production departments when required
process data in line with digital negative report sheets
deliver data in suitable formats
liaise with appropriate people in sound departments to ensure integration with camera
inform appropriate people of problems without delay
consult with relevant people to check that equipment has been safely connected to appropriate power sources
observe standard set etiquette and agreed working practices at all times
work in colour critical environments appropriate for the work
obtain optimal images from camera systems
archive data to meet production requirements
confirm that appropriate connections and upload and download speeds are available to store material
offer viable technical solutions to any data or format issues which may arise on set
make sure all media is transported at the end of each shooting day in line with security requirements
disassemble kit and equipment in line with safety procedures and manufacturers instructions
pack and store kit and equipment in a secure environment when not in use
work in line with follow health and safety legislation, risk assessments and other instructions for safe methods of working relating to the safe movement of camera equipment
Knowldege and Understanding

how to back up data to multiple destinations and be able to review and verify it
how to review data to ensure that there has been no damage or corruption
environmental factors which could affect recording media
how to provide weather cover for different shooting environments
how to carry out visual verification of material
how to pre-empt technical problems
how to offer feedback in a professional and diplomatic way
how to read and process data according to instructions on a digital negative report sheet
the differences between camera formats and the technical limitations and advantages and disadvantages of each
how to transcode and deliver data in different forms
software packages to execute data processing
how to integrate successfully into camera departments
how to achieve integration with sound and camera
who to liaise with when there is a problem and the manner in which to do so
how to identify power sources and who in electrical departments can help with this
how black out tents create colour critical environments
different colour spaces in relation to both camera and post production viewing and their impact on set, the edit , monitoring and final delivery
how to use look up tables (LUTs)
how to ensure accuracy and consistency with expectations of post production
colour theory and grading in relation to obtaining optimal images
how to archive effectively and appropriate tools to do this with
different download speeds and necessary connections and demands of storage requirements
how to ensure that all media is transported in an appropriate way at the end of each shooting day
how to disassemble and store kit and equipment
good working practices and expected set etiquette
how to work in a safe manner, paying attention to posture, preserving eye sight and lifting heavy equipment
the health and safety guidelines for working with electronic equipment on location or in a studio environment
