SKSCTV14 Expose and colour correct camera images

Overview 

This Standard is about exposing and colour correcting camera images.  This could apply to any type of production including feature films, TV dramas, commercials, documentaries, sports coverage, outside broadcast and live or stage events.  This could apply to a multi or single camera environment.

This includes adjusting camera controls and settings, monitoring exposure throughout shots and dealing wish issues caused by natural light.

This standard is for any member of the camera crew who exposes and colour corrects camera images.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. seek effective solutions when natural lighting causes problems with exposure or colour
  2. achieve required effect through colour balance, gain or film speed, filtration, or any other camera facility
  3. set exposure to meet focusing needs and allow for filters and effects
  4. monitor exposure for adjustment needs throughout shots

 

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand: 

  1. common filter requirements and their uses
  2. how to use internal and external light metering equipment
  3. common sources of light and their colour temperatures
  4. filter factors and their effect on exposure
  5. methods of facilitating movement between interior and exterior lighting
  6. features of cameras that could have an effect on exposure and colour balance
  7. the required mood of the shot and exposure requirements to achieve it
  8. methods of colour correction.
  9. exposure requirements for the production including day or night
  10. the uses and limitations of auto iris
