SKSCTV10 Maintain camera batteries during shoots

Overview 

This Standard is about maintaining camera batteries during shooting. This could apply to any type of production including feature films, TV dramas, commercials, documentaries, sports coverage, outside broadcast and live or stage events.  This could apply to a multi or single camera environment.

This includes ensuring that appropriate batteries and chargers are used, monitoring batteries in use, operating a charging routine, sequencing and labelling charged batteries and arranging appropriate storage for batteries.

This standard is for any member of the camera crew who maintains batteries during shooting.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. check and advise on suitable battery types
  2. monitor batteries in use on an ongoing basis
  3. check that chargers are suitable for batteries being used
  4. charge batteries in line with health and safety requirements and agreed charging procedures
  5. organise and operate a re-charging routine so that there is a constant supply of charged batteries
  6. keep sufficient batteries available to meet both shooting and charging needs
  7. number charged batteries according to the order in which they are to be used
  8. store batteries in line with manufacturers’ instructions
  9. obtain special battery storage facilities when required 

 

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand: 

  1. the correct battery and charger compatibility
  2. different types of mounting plates in use
  3. how to charge and balance batteries safely
  4. battery types and relative battery lives,
  5. how batteries can be affected by temperature
  6. how to safely store batteries
  7. whether there are any special storage requirements
  8. how to sequence batteries for charging
  9. how to label batteries according to their status
  10. how to prevent accidental discharge
  11. what methods are available to monitor batteries in use
