SKSCTV2 Set camera menus for camera operation

Overview 

This Standard is about setting camera menus for camera operation to meet production requirements.  This could apply to any type of production including feature films, TV dramas, commercials, documentaries, sports coverage, outside broadcast and live or stage events.  This could apply to digital or film cameras in a multi or single camera environment.

This includes accessing, adjusting, using and backing up camera menu systems, ensuring all primary and secondary picture settings and camera monitor settings are appropriate for required outputs, exiting menu systems safely and without affecting other settings.

This standard is for any member of the camera crew who sets camera menus including lone camera operators.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. access camera menu systems in line with manufacturers’ instructions
  2. identify and select appropriate menu and sub-menu pages for settings to be made
  3. adjust settings in camera menus to display outputs in appropriate locations
  4. select settings that align with any other cameras involved
  5. adjust settings on camera menus to achieve required outputs
  6. check that actual settings are as selected in camera menus
  7. exit camera menu systems without affecting other settings
  8. report any problems in setting camera menus to appropriate people or departments
  9. suggest viable solutions to problems encountered when setting camera menus
  10. work in line with health and safety procedures at all times

 

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand: 

  1. currently used status displays and maker settings
  2. currently used camera and viewfinder adjustment settings
  3. how to competently identify the functions of camera menu settings how to read menus, submenus and classifications of categories
  4. locations for display including any required external sources, monitors, viewfinders
  5. how to identify and adjust any required primary and secondary vision settings
  6. why it is important to align settings between different cameras when working in a multi camera environment
  7. how to assign information and settings to different user settings
  8. how, and on what media, to back up settings
  9. menu and sub-menu pages to load and write information to and from the appropriate memory card, stick or other device
  10. how to read, write or adjust any changes to appropriate memory card, stick or other device
  11. to whom to report any problems in operating camera settings
  12. the requirements of the relevant health and safety legislation and procedures
