SKSCTV13 Set up exposure monitoring

Overview 

This Standard is about setting up exposure monitoring using monitoring equipment and camera controls.  This could apply to any type of production including feature films, TV dramas, commercials, documentaries, sports coverage, outside broadcast and live or stage events.  This could apply to a single or multi camera shoot.

It includes setting up viewfinders, checking zebra information, positioning and adjusting monitors and viewfinders and locking or marking controls

This standard is for any member of the camera crew who sets up exposure monitoring.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. set up viewfinders to achieve required exposure
  2. check zebra information is indicating an appropriate level
  3. position and adjust monitors and viewfinders to provide the best available viewing conditions
  4. lock or mark monitor controls in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

 

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand: 

  1. how to set up viewfinders
  2. why zebra may be used, and how to establish a zebra level
  3. the practical implications of the different zebra levels
  4. how to interpret zebra information in relation to camera gamma and knee
  5. the criteria for selecting optimum positions for monitors and test equipment
  6. test signal equipment to achieve correct monitor set-up
  7. how to check that controls are secure
  8. how to mark controls when it is not possible to secure them
