This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to set up and operate machinery, tools and equipment used to produce furniture. It also covers understanding the tools and equipment used.

Performance Criteria
You must be able to:
1. comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times
2. obtain specifications and requirements following standard operating procedures
3. obtain equipment and materials required to carry out the job following standard operating procedures
4. check equipment is set up correctly, calibrated and in good working order following standard operating procedures and any manufacturer’s instructions
5. check guarding of machines is in place before using
6. operate and monitor machinery, tools and equipment following company procedures, manufacturers’ instructions and codes of practice
7. check quality of finished products following company procedures, manufacturers’ instructions and codes of practice
