Overview

The standard covers the skills and knowledge required to produce padded pelmets.

This includes:

1.            designing pelmets

2.            constructing templates

3.            selecting materials

4.            measuring

5.            cutting fabrics

6.            finishing

 

The standard is aimed at those working in soft furnishings.

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:      

1.            comply with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements, statutory regulations and industry standards/codes of practice at all times

2.            identify and confirm specifications for work being undertaken

3.            work with colleagues to achieve specifications

4.            select materials and padding for design of pelmets to meet specification

5.            select fabric type to meet specifications

6.            produce specifications for pelmets following standard operating procedures

7.            make templates for shaped pelmets to meet specifications

8.            construct pelmets to meet specifications

9.            cut fabric and materials to template patterns and specifications

10.          construct pelmets to template specifications

11.          assemble sections of pelmets to meet specifications

12.          construct edges of pelmets to meet specifications

13.          finish sections of pelmets to meet specifications

14.          attach Velcro to meet specifications

15.          position trimmings and decorative finishes giving required visual appearance

16.          attach trimmings and decorative finishes using methods giving required durability and appearance to meet specifications

17.          apply trimmings or decorative finishes in sequence following standard operating procedures

18.          identify problems and deal with them according to standard operating procedures

19.          record information in the appropriate information systems
