PROWPF01         Operate machinery and equipment (Import)

Overview

This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to operate woodworking machinery and equipment to meet company requirements. This includes preparing tools and equipment including tooling technology and calibration of measuring equipment.

 

This standard is aimed at those working as furniture and wood processors/machinists.

 

Outcomes

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:      

1.            comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times

2.            obtain specifications and requirements for items to be produced following standard operating procedures

3.            obtain equipment and materials required to meet specifications

4.            check equipment is set up to specification and in good working order

5.            check materials required meet specification and are free from faults

6.            prepare and set up machinery to specification following manufacturers' instructions

7.            conduct test runs and rectify any problems following manufacturers' instructions and standard operating procedures

8.            operate and monitor machinery and quality of finished products following standard operating procedures and manufacturers' instructions

9.            maintain machinery following standard operating procedures and manufacturers' instructions within limits of your responsibility

10.          pass onto following stage following standard operating procedures         

Knowledge & Understanding

You need to know and understand:

1.            relevant health and safety responsibilities

2.            meaning of terms used in specifications

3.            how to check equipment is set up and is in good working order

4.            how to check materials and the common faults that can occur

5.            tolerances allowed 

6.            how to prepare and set up machines

7.            how to conduct simulation/test runs to prove programmes

8.            how to operate and monitor machinery and quality of finished products

9.            how to maintain machinery and limits of your responsibility

10.          how to rectify any problems
