Provide and maintain emergency water supplies

Overview

This Standard is about providing communal water supplies and bottles of water as emergency supplies.  This involves preparing, deploying, monitoring usage and supplies and ensuring water quality is maintained.

 This Standard is for anyone who provides and maintains emergency water supplies.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. determine the need to provide an emergency supply in accordance with the identified situation and organisational requirements
  2. make an accurate calculation of the quantity of water to be supplied
  3. choose methods of supply which are appropriate for the location and volume of the usual supply
  4. provide emergency supplies within specified timescales
  5. advise relevant people of supply arrangements in accordance with organisational requirements
  6. position emergency supplies in accordance with organisational requirements
  7. confirm that information on availability and position of supplies is provided to customers in accordance with organisational requirements
  8. record accurate and relevant information about supplies in accordance with organisational requirements
  9. follow safe working and hygiene practices in accordance with relevant procedures, regulatory and statutory requirements
  10. monitor water usage and water quality at appropriate times
  11. take appropriate action when you identify problems with maintaining emergency supplies
  12. maintain the required condition and position of signs, lights and guards in accordance with relevant codes of practice
  13. confirm equipment is maintained and stored as required after use

  1.  the importance of providing emergency supplies, in conjunction with contingency plans
  2. organisational requirements for providing emergency supplies
  3. what to consider in order to decide how much water to supply
  4. different methods of supply and their appropriateness for different situations

  6. who needs to know about supply arrangements and the procedures for this
  7. the dangers associated with incorrect positioning of supplies on the highway
  8. requirements for positioning supplies
  9. recording requirements
  10. safety and hygiene practices and related regulatory and statutory requirements
  11. potential hygiene problems associated with temporary supplies
  12. the importance of monitoring water usage and quality and methods used
  13. typical and unusual problems and your responsibility for dealing with them
  14. those who require updates on issues with emergency supplies
  15. signing, lighting and guarding requirements
  16. equipment maintenance and storage requirements
