PROSS16              Install structural supports

Overview

This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to install standard frames and supports for solid surfaces, such as ladder frameworks.  It covers preparing work areas, interpreting drawing and specifications, setting out frameworks and installing frameworks

Outcomes

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

1.            comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times

2.            obtain specifications and requirements of the items to be installed following standard operating procedures

3.            obtain equipment and materials required to carry out the job following standard operating procedures

4.            check equipment is set up correctly and in good working order following standard operating procedures and any manufacturer’s instructions

5.            check all materials required are to specification and free from faults following standard operating procedures

6.            set out frameworks in line with drawings and specifications

7.            place centre intervals at an appropriate length according to manufacturers instructions

8.            line up cross members with the carcass ends

9.            fit frameworks in line with drawings and specifications and within the required tolerances

Knowledge & Understanding

You need to know and understand:

1.            relevant health and safety responsibilities

2.            meaning of terms used in specifications

3.            how to check equipment is set up and is in good working order

4.            how to check materials and the common faults that can occur

5.            length of the centre intervals

6.            why it is important that cross members line up with carcass ends

7.            why silicone is applied to the underside of the solid surface

8.            thermal movement of solid surfaces

9.            thermal movement tolerances of the solid surfaces used in your organisation
