PROSS23              Install solid surface 

Overview

This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to install solid surfaces on location to specification.  This includes scribing, fixing and securing of furniture using appropriate methods relating to substrate. This also includes adaptations to specifications for example pipe boxes, sockets, gas meters, etc.

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:      

1.            comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times

2.            obtain specifications and requirements of the items to be installed following standard operating procedures

3.            obtain equipment and materials required to carry out the job following standard operating procedures

4.            check equipment is set up correctly and in good working order following standard operating procedures and any manufacturer’s instructions

5.            check all materials required are to specification and free from faults following standard operating procedures

6.            maintain effective communication with supporting personnel and customers throughout the installation

7.            assess any unforeseen features of locations and identify how these affect placements following standard operating procedures

8.            mark out locations following standard operating procedures

9.            select components as specified and confirm quality meets company standards

10.          adjust components to provide best possible fit to locations following standard operating procedures

11.          minimise risk of damage to components/work pieces and surrounding areas following standard operating procedures

12.          cut, shape, mitre, butt and scribe components to specification following standard operating procedures

13.          fit components in sequence following standard operating procedures

14.          adjust components to ensure joins and alignments between components and surrounds are to required tolerances

15.          level and secure components in location following standard operating procedures

16.          ensure all edges are completed to specification

17.          seal components following standard operating procedures

18.          clean the installation following standard operating procedures
