PROFM51 - Interpret furniture designs 

Overview

This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to interpret and challenge furniture designs and offer solutions to any issues or problems that may occur. 

 

Outcomes


Performance Criteria


You must be able to:   

1.         agree the requirements of the design brief with the designer and production colleagues.

2.         agree roles and responsibilities with the designer and production colleagues

3.         make contributions to the design, and use initiative to promote the smooth running of the design process

4.         determine whether you have enough reliable information to make creative decisions

5.         confirm that any changes to the original design concept are agreed with the creative team, when these are justified 

6.         assess whether the resources for are sufficient and of the quality and quantity required to fulfil the design concept

7.         find alternative sources of supply when current suppliers cannot meet your requirements.

8.         manage shortfalls in the quantity and quality of materials, staff or facilities in the best way feasible

            

Knowledge & Understanding


You need to know and understand:

1.         production requirements, constraints and deadlines

2.         financial and resource constraints there are in your area

3.         relevant aspects of current regulations, environmental and health and safety considerations members of your team need to comply with

4.         realisation methods could be used and the stages involved

5.         the cost implications of realisation methods and how to balance these against the budget

6.         benefits, limitations and constraints of different realisation methods, equipment and technology

7.         the original design concept

8.         the requirements of the design brief

9.         the importance of clarifying roles and responsibilities with other members of the team

10.       potential suppliers at your disposal

11.       action to take in the event of shortfalls in the quantity and quality of materials, staff or facilities

12.       relevant aspects of regulations, environmental and health and safety considerations in the use of materials, processes and technology
