PROWPF05 - Prepare, set up and operate cutting machinery
Overview
This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare, set up and operate cutting wood machinery. It covers conducting test runs, rectifying problems and maintaining machinery. You should be able to use at least two cutting machines.
This standard is aimed at those working as furniture and wood processors/machinists.
Outcomes
Performance Criteria
You must be able to:
1. comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times
2. obtain specifications and requirements for items to be produced following standard operating procedures
3. obtain equipment and materials required following standard operating procedures
4. check equipment is set up to specifications and in good working order
5. check materials required meet specifications and are free from faults
6. conduct test runs and rectify any problems following manufacturers’ instructions and standard operating procedures
7. operate and monitor machinery and quality of finished products following standard operating procedures and manufacturers’ instructions
8. maintain machinery following standard operating procedures and manufacturers’ instructions within the limits of your responsibility
9. pass onto following stage following standard operating procedures

1. relevant health and safety responsibilities
2. meaning of terms used in specifications
3. how to check equipment is set up and is in good working order
4. how to check materials and the common faults that can occur
5. tolerances allowed
6. how to prepare and set up machines

8. how to operate and monitor machinery and quality of finished products
9. how to maintain machinery and limits of your responsibility
