Overview

This standard is about advising productions on how to provide an accessible audition process. You will advise the production on how to accommodate the access requirements of any actors or contributors. You will guide the casting team on how to make the audition process accessible including venues and timings.

This will also involve liaison with Agents/Representatives, Human Resources or Production teams to guide them on how to meet any access requirements that are identified.

This standard is for access coordinators.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. interpret and breakdown a casting brief to identify roles that may require somebody Deaf, Disabled, Neurodivergent and or Autistic (DDNA)
  2. signpost actors or contributors from a specific DDNA community as required
  3. advise on how to make the audition process accessible
  4. assess the venue location to identify any barriers to access
  5. suggest amendments or alternatives to the audition venue or process as required
  6. work with the casting team to identify any access requirements for the actor or contributor
  7. check whether those conducting the audition have any experience and knowledge of individuals who are DDNA
  8. support the team to respond to any known access requirements

 

Knowledge and Understanding 

You need to know and understand:

  1. how to obtain the production brief and interpret the cast requirements
  2. the requirements and characteristics for artists
  3. sources of information about artists and how to access them
  4. the commercial and aesthetic criteria to use in selecting artists
  5. adaptations that can be made to the audition process
  6. the access and special needs requirements of artists that need to be considered in pre-production
  7. advice and guidance to heads of department and production to employ and support a diverse cast and crew
