Overview
This Standard is about working effectively with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders . Stakeholders could include, but is not restricted to, representatives from utility companies, local authorities, statutory bodies or the emergency services. It includes communicating information, agreeing actions, responding to reasonable requests, carrying out any activities you have committed to, dealing with problems and recording interactions. This Standard is for anyone who works in the utilities sector.
Performance Criteria
You must be able to:
communicate with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders using accepted communication channels in line with organisational procedures
communicate information that will be useful to colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders and benefit your organisation at appropriate times
agree actions or activities with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders that support work in your area of responsibility
carry out actions or activities for colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders that you have committed to within agreed timescales
respond to reasonable requests from colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders in a constructive way and at appropriate times
co-operate with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders to find effective ways to deal with work problems
deal with problems with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders in line with organisational procedures
refer unresolved matters that could result in breakdown of working relationships to appropriate people
record interactions with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders in organisational information systems in accordance with operational and organisational requirements
use and store data about interactions with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders in line with organisational procedures and legislation
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
the remit of your organisation and how the work of your organisation fits into the industry as a whole
the role of other organisations with whom you are working and how they fit within the sector
the types of organisations that you need to work with including utilities, local authorities, statutory organisations, emergency services
the roles of colleagues, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders that you need to work with
the image of the organisation and how your behaviour at work can impact on that image
how to deal with other people in a manner which promotes good will
how to deal with groups and individuals with diverse roles and responsibilities
how to deal with colleagues, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders in different business environments
how to recognise and deal with problems effecting working relationships
how to resolve problems that are affecting productivity and the achievement of work goals
the lines of communications to be followed when communicating information to colleagues, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders
methods of communication including, oral, written and electronic and when they are appropriate
who to refer unresolved issues to documentation to use when communicating information to individuals and groups
