EUSWT06 Configure plant and apparatus in the electricity power utilities

Overview

This standard is about configuring electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment in the electricity power utilities environment.

Meeting this standard will involve you demonstrating you can:

  • follow the processes and procedures in line with your organisation’s quality assurance and operating specifications
  • plan and carry out the specified activities and restore and reinstate the work location
  • communicate effectively
  • resolve problems within your area of responsibility

Performance criteria

Plan to configure plant and apparatus

  1. follow and maintain safe working and environment practices in accordance with health and safety regulations and environmental legislation throughout the duration of the work
  2. use your organisation’s documentation and work instructions to determine the work location
  3. conduct a site-specific risk assessment in accordance with health and safety regulations
  4. determine the content and sequence of tasks needed to complete the work activity
  5. inform parties directly and indirectly responsible for completing the work activity of the work plan
  6. carry out all work in line with your organisation’s policy and work instructions
  7. prepare to configure plant and apparatus
  8. inspect, prepare and carry out pre use checks on tools equipment in accordance with work instructions and equipment specifications
  9. select and wear required personal protective equipment when completing work activities in accordance with health and safety regulations
  10. confirm that the correct authorisation to configure the plant and apparatus is in place, according to organisational procedures

Configure plant and apparatus

  1. apply and adhere to control measures in accordance with the requirements of the Safe System of Work (SSOW)
  2. follow prescribed setting-up procedures for the equipment to be configured
  3. configure equipment in accordance with work instructions and operating specifications
  4. check the configured equipment meets its specified operating parameters and performance requirements
  5. follow and maintain safe working and environment practices in accordance with your organisation’s procedures, health and safety regulations and environmental legislation throughout the duration of the work

Restore and reinstate work location

  1. store tools and equipment on completion of the work activity
  2. dispose of waste materials and substances in accordance with your organisation’s procedures, health and safety and environmental regulations
  3. leave the work area in a condition which is consistent with organisational procedures

Use and communicate data and information

  1. report unavailable or defective tools, equipment and resources
  2. read and interpret your organisation’s work instructions and documentation
  3. maintain documentation and report the completion and status of work activities in accordance with organizational requirements

Resolve problems effectively and efficiently

  1. deal with problems within the limits of your own job role responsibility
  2. Report problems outside your job role responsibility to designated Personnel in line with your organisation’s reporting procedures

Knowledge and understanding

General

  1. the main principles of health and safety and environmental legislation and regulations
  2. your organisation’s reporting lines and authorisation roles and responsibilities
  3. your organisation’s policies and procedures that directly impact on the work to be undertaken
  4. Understanding of the plant and apparatus being configured, its purpose, operation and function

Work area

  1. your organisation’s procedures and processes for reporting problems with tools and equipment
  2. the procedures and information sources to be applied to make sure that tools and equipment are fit for purpose and safe to use
  3. what personal protective equipment needs to be worn when undertaken work activities
  4. how to maintain safe working and environmental practices throughout the duration of the work
  5. how to minimise risks to self and others when undertaking work activities
  6. your organisation’s work instructions, information and reporting systems and documentation
  7. how to respond to the different types and categories of emergency situations that might occur
  8. how to read, interpret and apply prescribed “setting-up” documentation and procedures for configuring equipment
  9. how to report inaccurate and incorrect work instructions and documentation in line with your organisation’s procedures
